Great News for Alpaca Clothing in the U.S.

Just catching up on some news after a little bit of a break and I wanted to bring to your attention some excellent news for those of us interested in alpacas and alpaca clothing here in the United States.

You may or may not have heard that in July, Congress passed the 2008 Farm Bill which included a provision that officially labeled alpacas as farm livestock.  What does this mean for everyone?

The McPherson Sentinel in Kansas ran a great story that I think spells out the impact this will have.  Farmers may now raise alpacas on the same land as other livestock and receive federal grants, loans and other assistance.  A local alpaca owner who was interviewed in this story is hopeful that this will increase the amount of alpaca breeders in the U.S., which should help with economies of scale when it comes to exporting alpaca fiber.  It will also make it more cost-friendly to raise alpacas.
